Science Lives Here! Hallway Takeover - Science ATL

Hallway Takeover

The Science Lives Here! Hallway Takeover is a semester-long pop-up exhibit that places a collection of 24×36” posters of diverse local scientists and engineers in public school hallways. The posters link to digital content about each STEM professional. Participation includes standards-aligned lesson plans, a school visit by a STEM professional, and a cash award for your school.

Our goal is to foster hometown pride in Atlanta as a Science City, and cultivate a sense of belonging in science through the representation of historically underrepresented groups in STEM. We invite your school to participate free of charge thanks to sponsorship from Cox Enterprises.

Benefits

  • Enrich the STEM culture of your school with colorful posters of diverse local STEM professionals in your hallways. Each poster comes with a QR code linking to the STEM professional’s profile and story on our website.
  • Expand students’ awareness of STEM careers in their community, and sense of belonging in STEM. Students can scan the code and learn about the STEM professional while completing a mini scavenger hunt (lesson plan provided).
  • We will work with you to coordinate an In-School Field Trip from one of the featured STEM professionals to meet students and share their career journey.
  • Eligible schools receive a cash award (ranging from $100–$500) to fund additional STEM programming, based on student participation levels

Expectations

  • Identify a staff member to serve as the school’s Site Coordinator.
  • Identify an appropriate hallway(s) for the exhibit.
  • Complete our standard-aligned lesson plan within the timeline provided, during which the posters will be installed and a school visit by one of the featured STEM professionals will be scheduled.
  • Encourage student engagement by interacting with the posters and website, and invite teachers and after-school providers to integrate the content into their curricula.
  • Approve a school visit by one of the featured STEM professionals.
  • Promote your participation on social media, and in communications to parents and stakeholders to ensure your community sees the value of STEM at your school.
