Upcoming Science ATL Events
Soaring Through Science
2026-07-12T15:00:00.000Z
Join us as we soar through science with a hands-on engineering adventure where you will design, launch, test, and improve stomp rockets and paper airplanes. Discover the forces that make flight possible and put your creativity to the test as you tackle fun flight challenges inspired by real pilots like Dr. Carlee Bishop!
Avian Explorers
2026-07-18T13:00:00.000Z
Spread your wings and join us for Avian Explorers at Decatur Legacy Park! Together, we’ll wander through winding trails, sunny meadows, shady woodlands, and peaceful wetlands in search of the feathered residents and seasonal visitors that call this urban oasis home. Keep an eye on the water’s edge for graceful great blue herons and great egrets, look to the skies for soaring hawks, and listen for the lively calls of Carolina wrens tucked into the brush. With a bit of luck, we may also spot woodpeckers tapping through the trees, robins hopping along the trails, and Canada geese moving across the landscape!
This guided birding adventure blends curiosity, exploration, and a little bit of wonder as we slow down to listen for birdsong, scan the treetops, and uncover the stories birds can tell us about migration, habitats, adaptation, and the changing world around us. Along the way, we’ll pause often to observe, ask questions, and connect with the surprising biodiversity thriving right in the heart of Decatur.
Whether you’re a seasoned birder with binoculars in hand or simply someone who enjoys being outside and noticing the world around you, this experience is designed for all levels of curiosity. Think of it as part nature walk, part scavenger hunt, and part outdoor science adventure.
Bring water, or snacks, comfortable walking shoes, and binoculars or a field guide if you have them. Children are always welcome as long as they’re ready for the adventure, or happy to ride along in a backpack!
Meet your guide Alex on the right side of the admin building and follow the blue Science ATL directional signs to begin your adventure into the wild world above us. Check out the park map here.
