A Family Reading Adventure

Summer books themed The Great Outdoors.
It’s time for the 3rd installment of our Summer science book club! During the months of June and July, we will pair a fun reading list with captivating events all centered around our theme of The Great Outdoors! All Summer long, we will read about the beauty of the natural world and the adventures we can take there. And then – we’ll take those adventures during the events we have lined up!

By registering for our family book club, you will receive our book club guide that includes activities, discussion questions, and additional content to explore. Check out our book listregister for the book club, and sign up to join our summer events!

Create and care for your own ecosystem! Local artist, Travis Ronis of Overall Designs, teaches us how he blends art and nature through building terrariums. Join us at the Halfway Crooks Biergarten to make your own and learn how to keep your terrarium thriving at home!

Nature Navigators:
Cascade Springs

July 9th

There’s only one City in a Forest, and it’s Atlanta. In this Nature Walk series, we’ll explore nature in and around the Metro area, deepening your connection to the science of the natural world along the way. Our first stop: Cascade Springs!

Chattahoochee Paddle Adventure

July 22

Close out the summer with your own adventure in The Great Outdoors! Join Science ATL for a guided paddle trip down the Chattahoochee. Along the way we’ll learn from local scientists and naturalists about the river’s history and formation, flor and fauna, and even the impacts of climate change.

Summer Book List

We’ve pulled together an exciting list of books for every member of the family – whether you are a family of 2, 5 or 10, or even just flying solo! No need to read them all, but if you are a super-reader, go to town! Snag whatever books you are interested in from your local public library (or we’ve also linked each book for purchase from our friends at Little Shop of Stories). And don’t forget to register for the book club so you get our reading guide! We’ll have questions, prompts and resources for every reader to be able to contribute to the conversation around books!
