Have you ever wondered if that fish in your supermarket is really what they say it is? Or what species that neat looking mushroom is that you found in your backyard? Come find out! Every other Saturday, the Decatur Makers Community Lab is open for DNA Barcoding. Like a barcode found on a box of cereal allows point-of-sale systems to automatically identify a product, DNA barcodes use a short section of DNA to uniquely identify organisms to the species level. Bring your own sample and we’ll walk you through the steps.
Please note, the entire process will take multiple Saturdays but they don’t need to be back to back. You can pay in cash or credit card at the event. Price is $20 per sample for the entire process.
