Human beings have always supplemented our upper and lower limbs with physical devices to help us manipulate objects beyond our grasp, or move over terrains we are not evolutionarily adapted for.
In this session, we will talk about how a STEM education can be applied to designing and manufacturing physical devices that supplement the functionality of people with limb loss or limb difference.
Most of us know what a prosthetic limb device is. We either use one, know someone who does, or have seen them in pictures and movies. But what is a prosthetic device exactly? Who is it for? How is it designed? How is it made? Most importantly, what is the career path and how does knowledge in STEM apply? Let’s talk about it!
