In a lecture titled, “Digital Archaeology in Egypt: New Methods for Documentation Through the Use of Three-Dimensional Technology,” Mohamed Abdelaziz of Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities will discuss the ways in which new applications of photogrammetry have advanced the field. He will share recent work on several exciting projects including an underwater photogrammetry project to develop a photorealistic rendering of the archaeological site of the lighthouse of Alexandria, the virtual re-erection of five sculptural fragments from Tanis, belonging to Ramses II, the enhanced study of inscriptions using Reflection Transformation Imaging (RTI), and digital epigraphy—using technology to “unroll” cylinder seals.
