How a Failed Astrophysics Major Became a Science Writer

I knew from the time I was a very young child that I wanted to be an astronomer. The dream lasted until I got to college, where I learned to my dismay that I actually had no passion for doing what an astronomer does; what I really wanted is to know what an astronomer knows. This is the story of how it all worked out. Michael Lemonick is currently the Opinion Editor at Scientific American. He has written more than 50 Time magazine cover stories on science, and has written for National Geographic, The New Yorker and other publications.

Frog Feeding

Atlanta Botanical Garden
Saturday, 03/16/2019 — Saturday, 03/23/2019
11:00am - 12:00pm

Public Event

The frogs jump into action when presented with their meals, and an amphibian specialist is available to answer questions about these captivating creatures. Public frog feedings allow visitors to observe one of the most interesting aspects of these amphibians – their feeding behaviors. Most frogs have long sticky tongues that shoot out at prey. Some, like Poison Frogs, are able to do this with such incredible speed and accuracy that all visitors notice are flies disappearing. Others, like the Splendid Leaf Frog, are dramatic feeders and hardly use their tongues at all, but rather stuff the crickets into their mouths with their hands.
